This Independence Special features a Throwback to Cobhams’ ‘Transformation’ performed by the amazing Omolara Music.
I heard snippets of this song years ago with some adverts and had no clue who sang it. I went digging for stuff from Omolara recently after enjoying ‘Lover’ from years ago, and ‘ Hey Lovely’, I found this masterpiece again!

On this day of our independence, I bring to you this ballad with an operatic flavour, inspiring lyrics and a simple melody.
It is a motivational song that talks about the fact that the change we need in Nigeria starts with us, and despite the pain we have faced we can still make it through.
It starts with Omolara’s voice and then the instruments come in with the chiming of church bells and then key board sounds. The drums come in soothingly and soon after the second mini verse, proper piano sounds emerge.
This ballad is remniscent of a Disney animation, with its operatic flavour, and it’s key moving from c to c# to d.
Cobhams’ songwriting and production were fantastic, leaving his signature soothing effect, similar to that in ‘Ordinary People’.
