Lagos Fashion Week 2018 is alive as ever, with fashionistas walking purposefully, even in randomness around the magnificent stalls at the #LFW tents. I bump into Fashion Designer, Emmy Kasbit Winner of the Fashion Focus Fund for 2017/2018 organised by Lagos Fashion Week, which was sponsored by FETS Wallet in March 2018. The cash grant was Five Million Naira which Emmy Kasbit won in the midst of amazing contenders like Imad Eduso, Mo Agusto, and Morafa. Since the competition, more opportunities have been open unto Emmy Kasbit. But hey, Emmy is not a newbie to Lagos Fashion Week; he showcased a dashing collection on Day 3 of Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017.
FASHION FOCUS FUND EXPERIENCE
I ask Emmy Kasbit about his Fashion Focus experience, how he got into the competition and how it changed his life. He says,
“The Fashion Focus platform really changed me in different ways. First, I applied years back but I didn’t get in. So I tried again and I got in. It has been wonderful because I have gotten countless opportunities. Many doors have been opened. I won the grant, I won the platform and I even got to dress the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, all because of the win. So it’s not even that I won, but my winning put me on the spotlight and I was shortlisted to dress Theresa May! I really put my plans out there and a lot has happened that I am just grateful for. “
#LFW 2018 SHOWCASE
I ask Emmy what we should expect from his collection to be showcased at Lagos Fashion Week in one word and he says, ‘FIRE’
On his style icons and Emmy Kasbit says, “Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and internationally, that would be Jared Leto“
10 YEAR ASPIRATION
I ask Emmy Kasbit where he sees himself in 10 years time in consideration of the Fashion Focus platform and he muses, “In 10 years time, I see myself on the cover of Vogue, Forbes Africa, a lot of things actually. I see myself everywhere, internationally and locally”
Catch Emmy Kasbit’s collection later today at the Lagos Fashion Week Finale later today!
